TIME TO STOP MAKING THESE 3 FACEBOOK ADS MISTAKES
How often do you acknowledge your business mistakes?
Learning from our ‘bollocks’ moments can result in serious growth!! So it’s time to get real.
Let’s dive into the TOP 3 mistakes most businesses make when running Facebook ads! And by the end of this blog, you might see some opportunities to not only improve your Facebook ads, but also grow your business. AWESOME eh?!
1 – YOU KNOW BEST
So often when I start working with a new client, I hear this: ‘Oh I just want to run my ads on Instagram because that’s where my customers are’.
My response is usually: ‘Is that YOUR favourite platform?’ whether they admit it or not, the answer is usually ‘yes’.
I hate to break it to you, but whilst you probably know your customer very well – as you should. You won’t know whether they respond better to a Facebook or an Instagram ad unless you test in BOTH platforms. I’m not about the ‘I just know…’ I’m all about the ‘let’s let the stats qualify where your customers are’. Quite often my clients are shocked at the results.
2 – YOUR PERSONAS are ‘NAILED’ – But are they?
If you’ve nailed your personas that is brilliant! You know that Ginny from Buckinghamshire is obsessed with cats, has a husband who works in banking, she loves cooking, holidays three times a year and enjoys walks in the countryside… great. Now what? What are you going to do with Ginny? How are you going to sell your products to Ginny? 🙍♀️
Let’s give you an example… You’re selling a pizza cutter. It’s a lovely pizza cutter. BUT no one wakes up everyday thinking ‘what I need in my life is a pizza cutter’. I mean, they might, but I reckon finding those people will be rare as hen’s teeth.
What if you considered your persona’s pain points? Let’s revisit Ginny.
Ginny likes to spend time cooking, but specifically making pizzas from scratch! BUT she gets frustrated when her knife drags the cheese across the pizza when she cuts it. It destroys all her hard work and effort…
Bingo! You have a solution to your persona’s problem! Time to sell Ginny the solution – your seriously sharp pizza cutter that glides through pizza like a swan through water! Get it?
Understanding this is the backbone of great ads copy writing!
3 – You REACT too quickly!
One of my clients once described Facebook ads as the equivalent to a gambling addiction. You’re on a massive high when they’re converting like crazy and your ROAS is through the roof, but equally when that ROAS dives you’re panic stricken!
Time to sit on your hands!
Facebook ads need to be reviewed over a long time frame. You can’t make assumptions or decide upon the effectiveness of your campaign after a matter of hours or even days.
Ad results fluctuate over time. External factors can impact on the performance of ads. They also take time. Facebook is smart, but it still needs time. You need to give the algorithm time to find your people and pull the results in.
So, if you’ve just set up a campaign give it a week. If your campaign is running and the results are dipping, before you turn them off consider what external factors could be influencing results. Even a sunny day after a week of rain can result in a dip as people put their phones down and head outside instead….

“I am so pleased I invested in an hour with Anna I’d highly recommend her Power Up sessions. I had an ad that I had been trying to get approved forever, I was totally lost and growing more and more frustrated – not only did Anna give me the guidance I needed to get it through, she gave me a gem of money making an idea that was just sitting in my business unnoticed, money left on the table so to speak! Implementing this will make my investment back 10 fold – thanks Anna!”
